This was my first week of SAT Bootcamp. Which means that I teach from 9:30-1:30 and then have to mark 25 essays every day. We started classes on Monday because the management of my company doesn't seem to recognize holidays. Last year we started classes on July 1st. This year we are working the Saturday and the Monday of the August long weekend (including my birthday) But we have the weekend before that one off for a 5 day long weekend. I guess it just doesn't occur to them that some of us would like to have the SAME days off as our friends and family. ANYYYWAYYY
I worked Monday and Andrew too Ed to play paintball. They had a good time and Andrew was impressed with Eddy's shooting skills. The kitchen was a mess and after I finished cleaning it I didn't feel like messing it up again making dinner so I suggested we try a place down a Yonge and Wellesley called Hornero. It has a wood oven in which they make pizza and we had been meaning to go there for about a year. It is 7ish by this pint and we are both a little hungry but hey how long does it take to bake a pizza right? We sit down on the patio and Andrew orders a beer and I order a Coke and we question the waiter about some of the toppings which are Italian meats. The waiter looks at us dumbfounded and scurries off to find out what they are. He comes back and lets us know that the mystery is a type of meat. So we order a salad and 2 pizzas. 40 minutes later Andrew's beer is long gone and we have no sign of a salad let alone a pizza. Another couple come in and sit down near us. Another waiter comes by and takes Andrew's empty bottle and glass and Andrew has to stop him to request another beer. While we are still waiting the other couple's salad arrives and the woman stats removing the rotting pieces of lettuce from the "organic spring mix" that was probably bought at the Sobey's across the street. She politely beckoned to waiter and informed him that the lettuce needed to be inspected because much of it was off. Andrew and I were glad that they had "forgotten" our salad. By now 50 minutes have gone buy and Andrew is contemplating going to the Sobeys to get a sandwich. The waiter stops by to say that they were backed up...which would have been understandable IF the place had been full but being as they were not even half full it was perplexing. Finally at the 57 minutes mark the pizzas arrived. Andrew's was half burnt (well no wonder it took so long...it takes time to burn a pizza). They both were the most flavorless pizzas we have ever had the misfortune to eat. And that is saying something as we have had horrific pizzas in Korea but at least Korean Potato pizza tastes like potatoes. Mine was just an oil slick. I could see bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes but the olive oil and cheese completely overpowered them. The other couple's meal was equally atrocious, a well done steak when they had ordered rare and undercooked pasta. We were all too hungry to fight back and the 4 of us wolfed down as much as we could stomach and called for our bills and left as quickly as possible.
We really needed Gordon to go into the kitchen and start calling some people donkeys.
Andrew has once again vowed to never try a new place again.
